Organizations are increasingly turning to environmental information to help guide decisions and meet national regulations or incentive schemes, but the data needs to be validated and credible to be of any use.
ISO 14065, General principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental information, specifies principles and requirements for bodies performing validation and verification of environmental information statements.
Formerly dedicated primarily to greenhouse gas emissions, the standard has been updated and enhanced to cover all forms of environmental information, including greenhouse gas statements, carbon and water footprints, environmental labelling claims, sustainable reporting, information related to green bonds and other financial instruments, and more.
The standard is a sector application of ISO/IEC 17029, Conformity assessment – General principles and requirements for validation and verification bodies, and provides programme owners, regulators and accreditation bodies with a basis for assessing and recognizing the competence of validation and verification bodies.
ISO 14065 was developed and updated by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 207, Environmental management, subcommittee SC 7, Greenhouse gas management and related activities, whose secretariat is held by SCC, ISO’s member for Canada.
